Safe Christmas shopping in Salou

Local Police give security advice to businesses in Salou

Salou. Costa Dorada. 30 November 2024. Once again this year, Salou City Council is implementing a security reinforcement plan in the municipality's shops, with the aim of preventing theft and ensuring a safer environment for shopkeepers and customers at Christmas.

The campaign consists of local police and Mossos d'Esquadra officers visiting 400 shops in Salou, who are collaborating on this initiative with the departments of Citizen Security and Economic Dynamisation.

During the visits, the officers offer practical advice and recommendations to shopkeepers to improve the security of their establishments. These actions are intended to prevent possible thefts, but also to reinforce the perception that Salou is a safe municipality.

For this reason, the Local Police and Mossos d'Esquadra will also patrol jointly at strategic points in the municipality, in accordance with the specific needs of the Christmas season.

Regarding this campaign, the Councillor for Citizen Security, Sebastià Domínguez, explained that “this campaign not only reinforces security during a period of high commercial activity, but also generates confidence and peace of mind in both merchants and customers.”

For his part, the Councillor for Economic Dynamisation, Héctor Maiquez, pointed out that “the proximity actions and the greater police presence during Christmas have proven to be effective in deterring criminals and guaranteeing a calm and safe season for everyone.”

Security tips for merchants

The main security tips for shops in Salou are the following:
  • Adequate lighting: Keep some outside light on even when the shop is closed to deter tampering with locks or shutters.
  • Money scams: Check banknotes and credit cards. If you suspect that a banknote is counterfeit, do not accept it and contact the police.
  • General review of the premises: Identify possible vulnerable points in the establishment. Protecting valuable items: Use specialized display cases with anti-theft systems for more expensive items.
  • Money management: Avoid accumulating money in the cash register and make bank deposits at variable times.
  • Warning signs: Place a notice at the entrance that allows bag inspections and display business hours.
  • Credit card control: Always check card ownership and request identification if necessary.
