Salou will have 2,000 new parking spaces
Salou. Costa Dorada. 22 March 2024. Salou wants to make the stay easier for both its residents and the thousands of tourists it receives throughout the year. And to do this, it is implementing an urban transformation plan that will increase the number of parking spaces on its streets to reach 4,200 in two years.
This new council project hopes to significantly minimize parking problems in Salou, especially during the summer season, while promoting sustainable mobility and reducing the environmental impact of traffic. An initiative that not only seeks to improve the quality of life of the inhabitants of the municipality, but also to strengthen the commercial and tourist activity of the city, consolidating it as a welcoming and accessible destination for all.
Although Salou currently has 500 deterrent spaces on Joan Fuster, Pompeu Fabra streets and Berlin street, during the periods of greatest influx of visitors, the problem of tourists parking their vehicles in any available space persists. This plan therefore seeks to resolve this situation, increasing the availability of parking spaces.
2,000 new parking spaces
Thus, in less than two years, Salou plans to increase its parking capacity with the incorporation of 2,000 new parking spaces. These spaces will be added to the almost 2,200 that are already available throughout the city in surface parking lots, underground parking spaces, deterrent spaces and specialized garages.
The new parking spaces will be located in the following areas:
- Avda Pompeu Fabra and Avda Joan Fuster
Before the end of 2025, the council plans to complete the new phases of surface parking on Avda Pompeu Fabra and Avda Joan Fuster.
It is also planned to establish an extensive parking area in the sports area of Carles Roig Street. Thus, between this large parking area and the car parks in the Pompeu Fabra and Joan Fuster area, a total of 730 new additional parking spaces for vehicles will be added, in addition to another 40 specifically designated for motorhomes.
- Carles Buïgas Street, extension of Salarius Street and Eix Cívic
In addition, the council has announced the provision of another 1,200 spaces for cars. These are included in the construction of a new parking building on Carles Buïgas Street and Torremolinos Street, which will house 450 spaces, as well as in another building on the extension of Salauris Street with 300 more spaces. An underground car park is also planned in the central area of the Eix Cívic, strategically located in front of the orre Vella, with a capacity for another 450 spaces.
Additionally, and without specifying the exact number of spaces, the local government has also announced the creation of another surface parking lot next to the Eix Cívic.
A parking lot worth 7 million euros
7 million euros is the figure that the council plans to invest in the construction of the new car park on Carles Buïgas street. A project that was presented in November 2023 and that will put an end to the pedestrianization of the area, currently in its second phase of development. This car park will offer 450 spaces and is scheduled to open to the public during the second half of 2025. Unlike other park and ride facilities, this one will have a ground floor structure, plus 4 floors and will be located at the end of Carles Buïgas street with Torremolinos.
