Repsol has extended the measurements of air quality to the Polígon Sud de Tarragona in the year to cover the whole territory where it carries out its activity.
With this expansion, Repsol wants to have the air components monitored in municipalities throughout the Camp de Tarragona area. This is a step towards a model of transparency with the citizens and of collaboration with the administrations of the territory to guarantee a better knowledge and a subsequent better management of emissions of volatile organic compounds.
Thanks to the new impetus, the towns of La Canonja, Vila-seca and the Serrallo, Torreforta, Camp Clar and Bonavista de Tarragona districts will enjoy a model of air control similar to that of the North Polygon. These municipalities join those who are already part of the Air Quality Observatory Report, which collects and analyzes the volatile organic components in the Camp de Tarragona since 2018. This year, total 26 measurement points in 13 populations; The Morell, La Pobla de Mafumet, Constantí, Puigdelfi, Vilallonga, Alcover, Valls, Tarragona (Sant Salvador, El Serrallo, Torreforta, Bonavista, Campclar), La Canonja, Vila-seca (La Pineda), Reus, Barcelona and Prades.
According to the director of the Repsol Industrial Complex, Josep Francesc Font, "it is not just about meeting the requirements of the environmental regulations, it is about being self-evident and having absolutely monitored our closest environment." Font added that "Repsol's commitment to the Camp de Tarragona is not only reflected in the creation of wealth and jobs, but also in minimizing the environmental impact of activities."
The expansion of the controls in the south area will also allow us to deepen the knowledge of the air quality throughout the Camp de Tarragona. The method used by Repsol to measure the volatile organic components and determine the good quality of air in the Camp de Tarragona has recently been validated by the journal Science of the Total Environment. The evaluation method was created by scientists from the Universitat Rovira i Virgili and from EURECAT.
