Starting this fall, parking in Salou will be easier with the works carried out by the City Council of the capital of the Costa Dorada to improve 230 parking spaces and create 324 new ones. In total, the council invests 700,000 euros in this action with the aim of improving mobility, especially in favor of pedestrians.
On the one hand, the Salou City Council has improved and expanded the parking area on Pompeu Fabra street, between Pau Vila and Priorat streets. This deterrent car park occupies a municipally owned lot that has been paved and illuminated, and has also been expanded so that it now offers 140 spaces (30 more), with 5 spaces for people with disabilities and 11 for motorcycles. The City Council hopes in the future to expand this car park with the land donated by the La Unión campsite.
The car park on Carrer Pont dels Estanyets, between Carrer Berlin and Carrer Paris, has also been expanded. This area had 127 seats and now has 190 spaces (63 more), including 6 for people with reduced mobility and 3 for motorcycles. This parking area is also paved and illuminated.
Finally, to make parking in Salou even easier, the City Council has created a new parking area on Joan Fuster street, between the roundabout of Països Catalans avenue and the Salou-Reus highway, in front of the Regina hotel, very close to the Plaza Europa and Paseo Jaume I. The parking area has 224 totally new spaces for cars, 8 for people with reduced mobility. The land where it is located is also municipally owned. It is paved and illuminated. This connection with the promenade and the beach will be especially easy when the current railway line is crossed.
Finally, the Salou City Council enables a car park at the Salou-PortAventura provisional train station, on Joan Fuster street, between Santiago and Josep Pla streets. It is a parking lot for buses and taxis, and for loading and unloading people. As for private vehicles, the area has enough parking space to be able to absorb the demand of train users. ADIF's final station project includes a large parking area.
According to the mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, "our will is to equip the city with a greater number of public parking spaces, in order to facilitate access to those who come to visit us and enjoy the municipality." That is why it is essential "to decongest the center and the tourist area of vehicles, in order to achieve a more sustainable municipality with a higher quality of life". Likewise, Granados stresses that "we are recovering more space for people."
