6 crossings will overcome the train track that divides Salou in two

Visit of works to the new passage of the via in Cèsar street in Salou

Salou. Costa Dorada. 16 January 2021.
The Salou City Council has proposed to improve the mobility of residents and visitors to the municipality by connecting the two parts of the town that have been divided into 2 by the train track for years. To achieve this, he will build 6 steps, 3 for pedestrians and bicycles and another 3 for vehicles and pedestrians.

The crosswalks for pedestrians and cyclists will be 6 meters wide and cycle lanes, while those designed for vehicles and pedestrians will have 12 meters and sidewalks will be built. In total, the action has a budget of 80,000 euros and the execution will be carried out by the municipal brigade of Salou.

The first step that has begun to be built is in Carrer del Cèsar, it is for pedestrians and has 114.40 square meters. This step connects Via Roma and calle Pont dels Estanyets, while the other five steps that are planned are the following:
  • A pedestrian crossing on Barenys street (126 m2)
  • A crossing for pedestrians and vehicles in the connection of the Pere Martell street with the Tauste street (430.27 m2)
  • A pedestrian crossing, at the connection of Passage Brum with Carrer Rosa dels Vents (74.95 m2)
  • A crossing for pedestrians and vehicles, at the connection between Calle Salauris and Calle Berlín (273.10 m2)
  • A crossing for pedestrians and vehicles at the connection between Carrer Eduard Punset and Carrer Joan Fuster (485.82 m2)
The capital of the Costa Dorada is waiting for Adif to dismantle the train tracks that split Salou in two. And it is that the trains stopped circulating on this track on January 13, 2020, when the new line that connects the coastal municipalities with Tarragona came into operation without passing through the urban center of Vandellòs i l'Hospitalet de l 'Infant, from Mont-roig del Camp, from Cambrils and from Salou. The new line also closed the train station in the center of Salou and moved it to Avenida Joan Fuster with the name PortAventura.

Now, Adif has to dismantle the entire railway installation that passes through these towns and also Salou. The commitment is that these works begin in September 2021 but in the meantime, the Salou City Council builds and implements these steps to facilitate the connection between one area and another of the population. When Adif completely dismantles the current tracks and the rest of the railway elements, the City Council plans to build a Civic Axis, which will eliminate the current architectural barriers and better unite the urban fabric of Salou.

During the visit to the works to the first of the 6 steps of the road, the mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, remarked that "this action will also allow us to advance in pedestrianized areas of the city, a challenge we have to achieve sustainable mobility , thus increasing the quality of life of our residents and improving the visitor experience. "

For his part, the Councilor for Land and Housing Management, Marc Montagut, recalled the future project of the Civic Axis, while the Councilor for Urban Projects, control of the execution of public works, repairs and adjustments, Pedro Madrona, explained the resources that the City Council will put to build the 6 steps that will connect the two halves of Salou.
