Salou. Costa Dorada. 29 August 2013. At the beginning of September Salou returns to the medieval period to remember that in 1229 King Jaime I left the port of Salou with an army destined to conquer Mallorca to the Saracens. This 2017 will be the 22nd edition of the party between August 30 and September 3.
The King's Festival Jaume has as main act the historical recreation in which the popular procession headed by Jaime I and his wife Violant of Hungary leaves from Torre Vella, to follow the itinerary by Via Aurelia, to cross a part of the Way Rome, Barcelona Avenue and the Pier of the Dock of the capital of the Costa Dorada until arriving at the beach of Llevant of Salou. More than 300 people in period costumes represent soldiers, monks, nobles, knights and people of the town and form the royal entourage.
Arriving at Llevant beach in Salou, both the royal and the spectators enjoy a battle of arms and the recreation of a medieval tournament. A parliament of King James I and a final show close this historic recreation on the beach of Salou.
Gastronomic route and medieval market In addition, the King's Festival in Jaume includes other activities, such as a Salou gastronomic route with dishes inspired by the medieval book Sent Soví. This recipe book of 1324 is anonymous, it is the first that is known of Catalan cuisine and is one of the oldest in Europe written in a language other than Latin.
