Salou in December: Gastronomic Days and Fiesta del Calamar
Salou. Costa Dorada. 24 November 2019. Although November is not a particularly attractive month because there are less hours of sunshine, it is colder and windier, however it is the best time of the year to eat squid. If you love this mollusk, Salou is your destination at this time of year to enjoy the Gastronomic Days and the Squid Festival.
The Fiesta del Calamar is a playful and festive fishing contest that this 2019 reaches the 45th edition, so that it has become the most traditional event in the capital of the Costa Dorada. Recall Salou's past sailor. Estre 2019, the contest is held between November 25 and 30, organized by the Club Nàutic de Salou. Professionals, amateurs or retired people can participate, provided they have a suitable boat.
They go fishing every day between 3:15 p.m. and 6:15 p.m., and fish squid is weighed every day. The one who earns the most points on the different fishing days is rewarded, the one who catches the largest squid (Club Nàutic prize) and the one who catches the most squid (Salou Fishing Society prize). The Squid Festival closes on the last day with dinner and dancing at the Terrace Club Nàutic Salou restaurant, during which the awards are presented.
Precisely when the Festival of Squid ends, the Gastronomic Days of the Squid, “Del Mar a la Taula”, and various Salou establishments offer a full menu based on the mollusk. In 2019 you can taste the proposals of 9 restaurants in Salou between November 29 and December 8, with prices ranging from 18 euros to 40 euros (see the menus in the pdf at the end). According to the mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, "Salouense cuisine is experiencing a moment of momentum and great momentum." Thus, "tradition events, such as the one we have around the squid, in addition to newly created ones that will also be part of our identity are a treasure that enriches the culinary and cultural quality of our municipality."
For his part, the Councilor for Economic Dynamization, Héctor Maiquez, explains that "the Gastronomic Days of the Squid energize the restoration in low season, so, they help to seasonally adjust and, in addition, give us the opportunity to discover creative ways to cook this tasty mollusk. "
In addition, the Cultural Services area of ββthe City Council collaborates with the Club Nàutic de Salou in the organization of the Calamar Festival, with "the purpose is to maintain the tradition of our past of the fishing village that is remembered during a fishing week", as explained by the councilor of the area, Xavier Montalà.
