Salou. Costa Dorada. 17 July 2024. Catalonia aspires to become the World Region of Gastronomy in 2025 and the Salou City Council has given its support to this project, which with the name “SomGastronomia” wants to unite the agri-food, gastronomic and tourism sectors to create a high-quality wine-gastronomic tourism model. quality, regenerative and sustainable.
With this commitment, Salou reinforces its own tourist and gastronomic offer and contributes to Catalonia being recognized globally for its excellence in the food and wine field. In this sense, it is worth taking into account the large amount of quality products that are grown and fished in the closest area of Salou, which includes a dozen designations of origin for wines, oil, and nuts, in addition to other product distinctives. quality such as blue fish or calçots, among others.
The project is based on the high quality of the country's local products and the high international consideration of Catalan gastronomy since the revolution started by Ferran Adrià.
Thus, the project is committed to actions to promote Catalan gastronomy, both locally and internationally, in addition to others aimed at promoting quality local products, the fight against food waste and the circular economy. Other challenges are the professionalization of the sector to maintain the current international projection, and the creation and improvement of infrastructure and services aimed at tasting and information aimed at residents and visitors about quality local products.
