Salou gastronomic calendar 2022
Costa Dorada. 24 February 2022. Salou is positioning itself more and more strongly as an interesting gastronomic square due to the variety and quality of its proposals, collected in a gastronomic calendar with 12 activities to delight the palate throughout the year 2022. If you like to eat well, Salou is a safe bet.
Write down in your diary the proposals that will be organized throughout the year.
Tasta Salou: These days are already underway, since last February 3, coinciding with the Winter Festival, and are held every Thursday afternoon, starting at 7:00 p.m., in the 14 participating restaurants. For just 5 euros, you can taste the chefs' creations, which vary every week, and are paired with Raventós Codorniu wines and cavas. They can be consulted on the social networks of Tasta Salou and Salou Food Experience. In April the initiative will be updated incorporating new restaurants.
Salou Food Experience in Barcelona: Salou will travel to Barcelona to make Salou's local cuisine known throughout Catalonia, on March 28, at the Antiga Fàbrica Damm. In 2020, just before the start of the pandemic, the gastronomic calendar was presented in Madrid. This year the presentation in Barcelona will combine gastronomy with some performance.
Josep Lladonosa Gastronomic Awards: Salou will host the semifinal of the competition for young chefs from the provinces of Tarragona and Lleida, on April 7, at the Teatre Auditori de Salou (TAS), with renowned figures of Catalan gastronomy who are part of the jury, like Josep Lladonosa; the Torres Brothers; and Salouense chef Pep Moreno, Michelin star, among others.
Gastronomic days of rice: 3rd edition of consolidation of these days based on one of the star products of the territory, such as rice from the Delta. It will be held before Easter, from March 25 to April 10, in the restaurants of Salou.
Shrimp gastronomic days: This new initiative is dedicated to this crustacean and will take place, after Easter, according to the ban, in the restaurants of the municipality.
Sabor Salou: This is one of the most consolidated gastronomic initiatives in the municipality, with a 10-year history, and which, this year, will take place on the weekend of May 6 to 8, on Passeig Jaume I, as is tradition. It will be complemented with parallel content more aimed at professional chefs and with animation and popular actions.
Gastrotour, special world cuisine: This new edition is dedicated to the most cosmopolitan and international cuisine, since gastronomic diversity is one of the great advantages of Salou. It will take place in June, in different parts of the municipality.
Salou Mediterranean Wine Week: This action is completely new, and will be held in June. It will consist of different tastings, at various points in the city. The plot line is to make wine the protagonist, through the local historical legacy, with the figure of King Jaume I, and Salou as the gateway to our environment, which hosts the largest European concentration of appellations of wine origin.
Gastro Wine & Music: After a successful first edition, in 2019, this initiative returns to the Torre Vella de Salou, for one night, in September, to once again enjoy this pairing of gastronomic delights, wine and music, through exhibitions and show cooking from the best restaurateurs in Salou.
Mushroom Gastronomic Days: In October, mushroom season par excellence, Salou's restaurants will offer preparations that will unite the flavors of the mountains and the sea.
Gastronomic days of the squid: From the sea to the table: In the month of November, this initiative will return, with the star product of Salou, the squid, coinciding with the Squid Festival and the traditional fishing contest of this cephalopod.
In the presentation of the Salou 2022 gastronomic calendar, the chef with a Michelin star and president of the Associació d'Empresaris d'Hostaleria (AEH) of Salou, Pep Moreno, has especially highlighted the quality of the food products that are produced near Salou and has said that "we are in the richest space in local plant, animal and marine products", with various designations of origin for wine, oil, prawns and hazelnuts, and with other products recognized as protected geographical indications that certify their quality.
The mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, has highlighted Salou's gastronomic offer as a product that allows the tourist season to be adjusted seasonally and support the restaurant sector, which is very important for the municipality. For his part, the Councilor for Economic Dynamization, Hèctor Maiquez, has announced that the gastronomic offer could be expanded with another activity that would be held before Christmas.
