The lifeguard drone arrives on the beaches of Salou

The life-saving drone used in summer in Salou

Salou. Costa Dorada. 03 June 2021.
This summer Salou improves the life-saving system on the beaches with the incorporation of a life-saving drone called Dolphin1, which has the peculiarity that it moves through the water at a maximum of 4 meters per second and that can be used in adverse weather conditions.
This lifesaving drone can be used whether the victim is conscious or passive. In the first case, the lifeguard, from the sand, remotely directs the drone to the victim, who grabs the drone to get to the beach. In the case of the passive victim, the lifeguard can reach her with the drone, pick her up and return to the beach. The control to direct the device is simple and a single person can carry out the entire rescue task. In addition, it has lights that help the lifeguard not to lose sight of the device.
The drone is designed to be totally safe, as the propellers are covered to protect them and prevent damage to the victim. It also has a front bumper to get closer to the person safely, and it will continue to operate even with a damaged helmet. In addition, the Dolphin 1 has two lithium batteries that give it a range of up to 30 minutes.
This drone will be used during the month of June 2021 on the Llevant beach in Salou and from July on the Crancs cove, since it has an orography that makes rescue difficult.
The Mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, the Councilor for Citizen Security, David González, and the Chief Inspector of the Local Police, José Luis Gargallo, have attended the presentation of the life-saving drone of the Servitur company, which is in charge of the service of lifeguard on the beaches of Salou.
Granados explained that "people's safety is a priority for us. For this reason, this new system will help the beaches of our municipality to have a safer and pioneering rescue service in Catalonia and the peninsula." , the Councilor for Citizen Security has said that "through this system, valid for any type of water and weather conditions, risks are minimized both for the lifeguard and for the person who is in the water with difficulties to return."
