Romans remains and Cap Salou
Constantí
The region of Tarragona has an extensive and outstanding architectural heritage, predominantly remains of the glory days of the Roman Empire as aqueducts, quarries, towers and villas. The tour visits the Mèdol quarry, the tower of Scipio, the bridge of iron and funerary mausoleum of Centcelles. The wide views arising from the Cap of Salou round the route. The first point of interest along the way is the Mèdol quarry. To get there, standing in front of the Punta de la Mora, and from the N-340, take a flyover that runs on the AP-7. The quarry is located in a setting of lush vegetation and was one of the main points of extraction of stone for construction of the Roman era. There is a stone needle that indicates the level that existed when the rock began the excavation. The site can be visited along it to the outside or on trails that penetrate inside. There is also an interesting museum. It returns the path to the N-340 SW towards Tarragona. Immediately to the right is the silhouette of the tower of Scipio (km 3). Once accessed, they are still up in the neighborhood of St. Pere and St. Pau, N of Tarragona, where you take a marked path (12.5 km) with the white and red GR 92 (Long Range) As to the AP-7. In the cross, we reach the bridge of the aqueduct or the Devil Ferreres, Roman. Continue along the track (km 15) and cross the river by a bridge Francoli. It continues near the highway and take a detour to the right that leads to the mausoleum of Centcelles Roman, early Christian century old building IV that was built on an important Roman villa. Stresses its hemispherical dome decorated with mosaics. Follow a path leading to the village of Constantine. Here again the T-721 Tarragona, take C-31B in SW and turn left (OS) for the TV-3146 to Cap Salou (30 km) from where enjoys a wide panorama of the coast of Tarragona. End of itinerary.
